Celebrating a Legacy of Over Four Decades in Dupont Circle, DC

Since 1985
Esen and her husband Mithat (“Larry”) immigrated to the United States from Turkey with their two children in 1988. Their son Don planted the seed for their small business when he was just 6 six years old, offhandedly wishing that his parents would sell ice cream someday.

From there, the family purchased Larry’s, a small ice cream shop that was going out of business. Esen took charge, bringing a taste of their Turkish heritage to the nation’s capital, crafting unique flavors like Halva and serving up pistachio baklava. Her husband became the new face of Larry’s, and ran the business-side of the operation. Throughout the years, the parlor has seen a number of evolutions, at one time serving up sandwiches, cupcakes, and pastries alongside their homemade scoops.
Homemade, with real ingredients
Throughout it all, Esen remained true to her promise of offering the best quality, making her ice cream from just a pure sweet cream base, without any eggs, corn syrup, or artificial flavorings. That promise still holds true today nearly four decades on – we still make all of our ice cream the old-fashioned way.
Today, you’ll find over 32 different homemade ice cream flavors and non-dairy sorbets available everyday, made in-house at our Dupont Circle parlor.

A local institution in Dupont Circle
With Esen and Mithat now taking a step back, they’ve passed the business down to their son Don, the original inspiration behind the shop. Carrying on his family’s legacy and commitment to quality, the shop remains a beloved institution only made possible by the community’s continued love and support.
Just a block away from Dupont Circle, you’ll find Larry’s nestled in the same cozy basement parlor we started in over four decades ago. Stop by any day of the week to try out our newest flavors, sweet treats, or a cup of freshly-ground coffee.
